Everything you wanted to know about renting a Tesla.
Most renters have the same questions. We've answered the top ones below — text us for anything we missed.
How do I rent a Tesla from CarBabies?
All bookings happen through our Turo host profile. Pick a car, pick your dates, and Turo handles ID verification, insurance and payment. Once you're booked, we'll text you to coordinate handoff.
Where can I pick up the Tesla?
Our home base is Stamford, CT — home pickup at Stamford is free. We also deliver to Westport, Greenwich, Darien, New Canaan, White Plains, Westchester County Airport (HPN), LaGuardia (LGA) and parts of New York City for a delivery fee, selected at booking on Turo. See the individual location pages for details.
Can I take the Tesla to the Hamptons, Martha's Vineyard or Maine?
Absolutely — these are some of our favorite trips. We've put together full road-trip guides with our favorite Supercharger stops:
→ Hamptons guide
→ Martha's Vineyard guide
→ Maine Coast guide
Do I need to know how to drive a Tesla?
Nope. Every rental includes a free 5–10 minute orientation covering autopilot, charging, the touchscreen, and how to use Superchargers. First-timers tell us this is the best part — by the time you're on the highway you'll feel like you've owned one.
How does charging work — and what does it cost?
Tesla Superchargers are everywhere on I-95, the LIE, and most NE corridor routes — typically 15–30 minute stops. Charging cost is the renter's responsibility, but it's roughly 1/3 the cost of gasoline for the same distance. We send you a personalized Supercharger map at handoff so you'll know exactly where to stop.
What's included in the rental price?
Insurance via Turo Protection (your choice of plan), 200 free miles per day, Tesla Supercharger network access (charging cost is billed at trip end), a fully charged car at handoff, and a professionally cleaned interior every time. Custom door-to-door delivery may have a small fee depending on distance.
How old do I need to be to rent?
Turo's standard minimum is 18 in most US states (21+ for some premium vehicles). Drivers under 25 may incur a young-driver fee directly through Turo. Renters need a valid US or international driver's license.
Can I rent for a week, two weeks, or longer?
Yes — we offer weekly and monthly discounts for longer rentals, perfect for visiting executives, summer-rental gaps, or extended Hamptons stays. Contact us directly for multi-week or corporate bookings.
Is the car safe? What if something happens?
Tesla Model 3 has a 5-star NHTSA safety rating and is one of the safest cars on the road. In the unlikely event of a problem, Turo provides 24/7 roadside assistance, and you've got our cell number — text us anytime.
What if I return the car with a low battery?
No penalty. We charge it overnight and it's ready for the next renter. The only requirement: the car needs to make it back. Most Superchargers along your route can put you at 80% in 20 minutes.
What's your cancellation policy?
Turo's standard cancellation policy applies — full refund if you cancel more than 24 hours before your trip starts, partial refund inside 24 hours, no refund after the trip has begun. The exact rules are shown at checkout before you confirm. For emergencies, text me directly and I'll always work with you.
Can I take the Tesla out of state?
Yes — out-of-state travel is allowed within the US. Hamptons, Martha's Vineyard, Maine, the Berkshires, Newport — all encouraged. Just let me know your trip plan when booking so I can give you charging advice. Out-of-country (Canada, Mexico) is not permitted.
Do you offer multi-day or weekly discounts?
Yes. Turo automatically applies a weekly discount for 7+ day bookings and a monthly discount for 28+ day bookings. For corporate rentals (2+ weeks), text me — I'll work out a custom rate.
Can I add additional drivers?
Yes. Turo allows additional approved drivers (spouse, family member, friend) to be added at no cost, as long as each driver passes Turo's standard verification. Add them before the trip starts via Turo's "Add a driver" option.
What ID do I need to rent?
A valid US driver's license. International guests need a passport plus a license from your home country. Turo handles all verification at booking — I don't need to see or copy anything at handoff.
What happens if I'm late returning the car?
Text me as soon as you know. A 30-60 minute grace period is usually fine. If you're going to be hours late, Turo charges a per-hour late fee that goes to me — but I'd much rather you adjust your booking in the app than get surprised at return.
Can I rent the Tesla for a wedding, photoshoot or event?
Absolutely. Weddings, prom, photoshoots, music video shoots — these are some of my favorite bookings. Text me first so I can block the dates and make sure the right car (Deep Blue or Midnight Silver) is on standby. Decoration is fine as long as nothing damages the paint.
Do you provide child seats or booster seats?
I don't keep seats in the cars, but you're welcome to install your own — the Model 3 has standard LATCH anchors in the rear bench. If you need a seat for a specific trip, I can also point you to a local rental option.
Can I smoke or vape in the car?
No. Both cars are strictly smoke- and vape-free. A $300 cleaning fee applies if there's any evidence of smoke, vape, or strong odors at return. (Food, coffee, and dogs are all fine — just clean up after yourself.)
What if the car gets a flat tire or breaks down?
Call me first, then Turo roadside assistance (included in Turo Protection). Teslas don't carry a spare — the trunk has a tire-repair kit for small punctures. For anything serious, Turo covers towing to the nearest Tesla service center and arranges a replacement vehicle if the trip is interrupted.
Can I take the Tesla on a ferry (Vineyard, Nantucket, Block Island)?
Yes — Teslas fit standard auto ferry slots. Book your ferry reservation as soon as you book the car (summer slots fill fast). My Martha's Vineyard guide walks through the whole Woods Hole → Vineyard Haven route.
What's actually included in Turo Protection?
Turo offers three Protection plans at checkout — Premier, Standard, and Minimum. All three include third-party liability and roadside assistance. Premier and Standard also cover physical damage to the car with a deductible that drops as you pay more. Full details are shown at checkout; pick the level you're comfortable with.
What if my flight is delayed when picking up at LGA or HPN?
Send me your flight number after booking — I'll track it. If you're delayed by hours, no problem; I rebook myself around your actual arrival time. The pickup time in Turo is a guide, not a hard deadline for airport pickups.
